I finally finished a book! I think I started and gave up on at least 4 books in a row until I finally gave this one a try and it actually kept my attention。 I thought the mystery was pretty well done。 I had several half-formed theories throughout the whole book, but I didn't figure it out completely until shortly before it was revealed, which is a nice change of pace since I usually guess things far advance (the hazard of reading a lot of the genre)。 My one small complaint is that I wish the end I finally finished a book! So, in conclusion, I’m ambivalent。I dislike the main characters and have zero desire to unveil the identity of the serial killer。

This book was so good! Kept me guessing!

This book gripped me from start to finish。 I was super interested in the criminal profiling of the Bloody Heart Killer that the main character, Gwen, did。 There were a couple of big surprises (although I’m sure some readers would be able to figure out the twists) and everything resolved nicely in the end。 Readers have knowledge that multiple characters are lying throughout the story, but we don’t know about what, which is an aspect I really enjoyed。

The first half had me hooked。 For the ending the killer was predictable。 Also hated the mention of child grooming and rape towards the end。 And abortion due to getting pregnant from being raped by a teacher。 Wouldn’t have read the book at all if I realized that。 As much as I love thriller/horror books I don’t want to read any details。 Only giving average stars for the fact that this was a book I couldn’t put down。 By the time the details were told it was already 90% so I finished it。 🤷🏻‍♀️

Great psychological thriller。。

Another good one by this author。 I love the short chapters, for some reason they make her books easier to binge or to sneak in 5 mins of reading time here and there on a busy day。 It wasn’t that big of a mystery to figure out who the killer was but it was highly entertaining to watch the characters trying to piece the puzzle together and the buildup was very well executed。 I’m looking forward to her next book!

4。5 rounded up。 Suspenseful, shocking, and sometimes gruesome。 Criminal Minds meets Cruel Summer? Loved it。

A twisting, turning ride that never let up for a minute。 Just the kind of thriller I love。 I will read anything and everything A。 R。 Torre writes!

When I think of Alessandra Torre, I think of contemporary romance。 Not anymore。 She can definitely write a psychological thriller。 Dr。 Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist that specializes in clients with violent tendencies。 Imagine Dexter going to therapy。 She hit the lottery when Defense attorney Robert Kavin hires her for a psychological profile on a serial killer。 A serial killer who has tortured and killed 6 teenage boys。 A serial killer that is now locked up and she has access to interview him。 A When I think of Alessandra Torre, I think of contemporary romance。 Not anymore。 She can definitely write a psychological thriller。 Dr。 Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist that specializes in clients with violent tendencies。 Imagine Dexter going to therapy。 She hit the lottery when Defense attorney Robert Kavin hires her for a psychological profile on a serial killer。 A serial killer who has tortured and killed 6 teenage boys。 A serial killer that is now locked up and she has access to interview him。 A serial killer who killed the DA's own son。 This was a very creative story that had great characters。 With twists and a surprising ending, this was and addicting thriller。Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and A。R。 Torre for a copy of "The Good Lie" in exchange of an honest review。 。。。more

a decent thriller but there were never any moments that left my jaw dropped from shock or excitement that I've come to expect from this genre。 still, the set up for the story was interesting and made for a quick and easy read (available on ku) a decent thriller but there were never any moments that left my jaw dropped from shock or excitement that I've come to expect from this genre。 still, the set up for the story was interesting and made for a quick and easy read (available on ku) 。。。more

Suspense and a Shocking ResolutionNot a lot of action here。 I was actually getting annoyed at all the pages filled with the internal musings of the psychiatrist main character。 I was tempted to put it down and start something else with a bit more action。 But I stayed with it and I am really glad I did。 I never guessed whodunit and I was stunned to find out who really DID do it。 And the clues were all right there in front of me, the reader, all along。 I had a bit of trouble because I didn't much Suspense and a Shocking ResolutionNot a lot of action here。 I was actually getting annoyed at all the pages filled with the internal musings of the psychiatrist main character。 I was tempted to put it down and start something else with a bit more action。 But I stayed with it and I am really glad I did。 I never guessed whodunit and I was stunned to find out who really DID do it。 And the clues were all right there in front of me, the reader, all along。 I had a bit of trouble because I didn't much like any of the characters, maybe especially Dr。 Gwen Moore, the aforementioned psychiatrist main character。 I admit that I normally don't embrace "psychological thrillers" because they so often feature main characters who are unreliable and I hate being confused about whether I can trust the main POV character。 At least I didn't have that issue here, I suppose, but there were a lot of lies and half-truths to wade through。 In the end, I give this 3 1\2 stars, rounded up。 。。。more

1。5 starsHeadlines:NopeNopeI am such a fan of Torre's thrillers, I much prefer them to her romance personally but sadly this one really missed the spot for me。 It had a plot that was at first, enticing but had a twinge of sick to it。 Now, if you've read her Deanna Madden series, that's also kind of sick but The Good Lie really felt like a sensationalisation of what was really very tragic。I hated the characters。。。across the board。 Most were pretty grey, some were totally dark and irrideemable but 1。5 starsHeadlines:NopeNopeI am such a fan of Torre's thrillers, I much prefer them to her romance personally but sadly this one really missed the spot for me。 It had a plot that was at first, enticing but had a twinge of sick to it。 Now, if you've read her Deanna Madden series, that's also kind of sick but The Good Lie really felt like a sensationalisation of what was really very tragic。I hated the characters。。。across the board。 Most were pretty grey, some were totally dark and irrideemable but they were all unpleasant apart from the victims。 This story gave me Fred & Rosemary West vibes for fellow UK readers and that's never going to be a good look。I'm now off to purge this completely from my mind with some cat videos。 If you read this, don't say I didn't warn you。 Triggers allllll the way。 。。。more

for me, this is a perfect thriller。 i didn't see any of the twists coming, every turn was withheld until it was impossible and the writing held my interest every single page。 normally, i find myself skimming the ending of a thriller to figure out who did what。 that didn't happen with this one。 for me, this is a perfect thriller。 i didn't see any of the twists coming, every turn was withheld until it was impossible and the writing held my interest every single page。 normally, i find myself skimming the ending of a thriller to figure out who did what。 that didn't happen with this one。 。。。more

Oh my goodness what a book this was to read。 So right from the start I was hooked, this story messed with my head with trying to figure out who done it, there was a couple of times I thought I knew who it was but got it wrong both times。 I was absolutely shocked when I found out who it was because I definitely didn't see it at all。This was such a gripping book to read, it had me on the edge of my seat many times and had my mind working over time trying to work it all out。 A brilliantly written t Oh my goodness what a book this was to read。 So right from the start I was hooked, this story messed with my head with trying to figure out who done it, there was a couple of times I thought I knew who it was but got it wrong both times。 I was absolutely shocked when I found out who it was because I definitely didn't see it at all。This was such a gripping book to read, it had me on the edge of my seat many times and had my mind working over time trying to work it all out。 A brilliantly written thriller that blew my mind and i couldn't put it down, I loved everything about it! Oh yes, this one was right up my alley。Told from multiple POV's, this one flips between a couple of different and concurrent plots。 On the one hand we have Gwen, who's a psychiatrist that works with people who have extremely violent tendencies。 When we meet her, she's working with a man who wants to kill his wife because he's immensely jealous of her friendships with other men, and he constantly thinks she's having affairs with these men。 Then, on the other hand, we have a mother who's overjoyed Oh yes, this one was right up my alley。Told from multiple POV's, this one flips between a couple of different and concurrent plots。 On the one hand we have Gwen, who's a psychiatrist that works with people who have extremely violent tendencies。 When we meet her, she's working with a man who wants to kill his wife because he's immensely jealous of her friendships with other men, and he constantly thinks she's having affairs with these men。 Then, on the other hand, we have a mother who's overjoyed after her son, Scott, escapes the claws of a serial killer and escapes, returning home scared and damaged, but alive。 We're also introduced to Robert, an attorney who has decided to represent the alleged serial killer, after Scott identifies the man as a teacher from his school。At first it isn't clear how all of these characters and plots are linked, but as the book progresses, the different strands start to intertwine and by the end of the book, everything is tied together perfectly。I found this book to be an absolute page-turner, and I finished it in a day。 It was also very clever and I loved how everything came together at the end。 If you're a fan of thrillers, then definitely pick this one up。 It's highly entertaining and it gets a definite thumbs up from me。 。。。more

I read almost 200 pages the first night, if I didn't almost fall asleep I would have finished it I couldn't put it down。 I laughed at Gwen and Meredith's girl talk after Robert。 You are never certain what's going on, like Gwen we are trying to put the pieces together until a twist we don't see coming。 I really love this author's work。 I highly recommend reading this one。 I read almost 200 pages the first night, if I didn't almost fall asleep I would have finished it I couldn't put it down。 I laughed at Gwen and Meredith's girl talk after Robert。 You are never certain what's going on, like Gwen we are trying to put the pieces together until a twist we don't see coming。 I really love this author's work。 I highly recommend reading this one。 。。。more

One of my top thrillers of 2021 by far! A。R。 Torre, you've done it again。 Sheer brilliance! This is one of those reads that I didn't have an inkling as to what was happening, or why certain characters were being introduced, only to find out that it ultimately comes full circle in an ingenious ending。 A serial killer called the Bloody Heart Killer has been preying on rich, teen boys - kidnapping, torturing and eventually killing them and leaving a calling card - a heart carved into their chest。 B One of my top thrillers of 2021 by far! A。R。 Torre, you've done it again。 Sheer brilliance! This is one of those reads that I didn't have an inkling as to what was happening, or why certain characters were being introduced, only to find out that it ultimately comes full circle in an ingenious ending。 A serial killer called the Bloody Heart Killer has been preying on rich, teen boys - kidnapping, torturing and eventually killing them and leaving a calling card - a heart carved into their chest。 But then one boy, Scott Harden, manages to escape and points the finger at one of his high school teachers, Randall Thompson。 Enter Robert Kavin, a high-profile defense attorney and father of one of the BH Killer's victims。 He is convinced beyond a doubt that Scott is lying and teams up with psychiatrist Gwen Moore, who specializes in treating those who struggle with urges to harm others, to develop a profile of the BH Killer and determine whether the teacher fits the profile。 For Gwen, it's the opportunity of a lifetime to profile and interview a potential serial killer, but she begins to question her ability to do her job, as the sparks fly between she and Robert confusing matters, but even more troublesome is the fact that she doesn't quite trust him。 You know immediately that both Gwen and Robert are keeping dark secrets from each other, and you may think you have it figured out, but get ready, because that's when Torre snatches the proverbial rug out from under you! You just start to get comfortable with the storyline and characters, and then BAM - you start to question everything。 Scott, Gwen, Robert, Randall - no one is quite who they appear to be, and when you think something seems obvious, it's likely an illusion。I couldn't quite put my finger on what was really going on, and then when it was finally revealed, I was completely caught off guard! Overall, it's an intense, wild ride that had me riveted from page one。 Whatever Torre comes out with next, sign me up, because she's a must-read author for me! All the stars。 。。。more

A great crime and psychological suspense investigation with the barest hint of romance。 There are twists and turns and what is in plain sight, is well hidden via red herrings and suspicious characters。 Its an addictive read that could have been 5 stars for me, but I didn't really take to either Robert or Gwen。 Their relationship was cold and flat and I wasn't invested in it at all - plus they are each hiding stuff。 Excellent writing and research, so I'll be looking for more books by this author。 A great crime and psychological suspense investigation with the barest hint of romance。 There are twists and turns and what is in plain sight, is well hidden via red herrings and suspicious characters。 Its an addictive read that could have been 5 stars for me, but I didn't really take to either Robert or Gwen。 Their relationship was cold and flat and I wasn't invested in it at all - plus they are each hiding stuff。 Excellent writing and research, so I'll be looking for more books by this author。 It's told mostly in Gwen's point of view with author narration in third person for some scenes that involve teenager Scott, an escaped victim of the BH killer。 。。。more
